The Blueprint’s goals are to create two extraordinary centers of economic expansion along the Northway Exit 16 and Exit 15 corridors to bring manufacturing, service, office and retail jobs to the area. The potential employment total is estimated to range from 12,400 to 27,287 new jobs and total payroll potential of nearly $1 billion. Officials touted Wilton’s effort as a best practice example of how local communities can prepare themselves to take advantage of the economic development opportunities that will occur throughout Saratoga County.
The Blueprint was officially launched at the development-ready Wilton Global Campus, located at Exit 16 off Interstate 87. The 283,000 sq. ft. building served as a state owned facility for the care of developmentally challenged residents until the early 1990s and now serves as a model for adaptive re-use. Present owner D.A. Collins is currently renovating the building to be home to The D.A. Collins Companies; the remaining space will be leased to small and mid-sized businesses.
